Mijas Golf Club
- With two of the busiest and most popular
golf courses on the Costa del Sol, Mijas Golf is definitely
doing something right. Both 18-hole courses were designed
by Robert Trent Jones in the mid-70s. Golfers will enjoy
Trent Jones creation with its gentle, undulating fairways
and the general impression of wide-open space on the two
courses. Exotic araucalia pines and perfumed jacaranda line
the fairways at Los Lagos, and olive trees, naturally, are
in abundance on Los Olivos. Both courses pay homage to the
architect's philosophy "difficult Par, easy Bogey", with
very little rough, plenty of water and relatively flat.
The Club House is an old Andalusian cortijo (farmhouse)
and one can feel the continual buzz on the terraces and
in the restaurant, where the variety of clientele comes
from all over the world.
With its 6,367 meters, Los Lagos is the longer of the two
that comprise of Mijas Golf. Los Lagos is a ground course
with wide fairways and a few forest trees obstacles, but
is defended by many bunkers and nine lakes, from which the
course gets its name and which easily trap the ball. It
is a course with soft movement and large greens. It could
be said that the American designer wanted to present a course
especially for amateurs, but at the same time, it can present
a challenge for the best players.
