| Gary Huston - The Golf Connection |

Gary & oldest son Ian
|
Do you eat, sleep, and breathe golf? Or, does your loved
one…and you'd like to be able to carry on at least some kind
of conversation? Then, tune in to The Golf Connection
co-hosted by Gary Huston (and his partner Greg Rakestraw).
Every week, Gary and his guests discuss the latest in golf
circles. From the tours and tournament news, to the latest
controversy, to the best golf destinations from classic to
contemporary, Gary and gang hit it all and let the opinions
fly!
Gary's first taste of golf came unexpectedly at the age of
9 when his mother took him to the local club. Thinking he
was going to spend the day lounging at the pool with his buds,
Gary was instead disappointed when his mother dropped him
and a battered old bag of clubs off at the pro shop for his
first junior clinic. Dismay, however, quickly turned to delight
when Gary connected with a 7-iron and sent the ball on its'
way! He's been hooked ever since. Tutored and mentored along
the way by Lloyd Wadkins, contemporary and friend of Byron
Nelson, Sam Snead, and top US amateur Ed Tutwiler, Gary learned
the "old school" way of golf - shot shaping, rhythm, feel
and few mechanics. Lloyd once told Gary that he didn't teach
putting but, if Gary wanted to learn, "watch old tapes of
Bobby Locke"; now, that's old school.
"Real life" interrupted Gary's golf game along the way as
he went to work in the travel and airline industries; first,
as a tour director/escort and then, on the operations side
of things. Over twenty years, work in the industry has taken
Gary around the world from embassy meetings in London, Italy
and Hong Kong to meetings with high-level government officials
in Beijing, China and Bonn, Germany. Detail-oriented, full
of ideas, and ready for a new challenge, Gary decided it was
time to combine two of his passions - golf and travel, so
he could enjoy the best of both!
The Golf Connection is the result. Join Gary each week as
he discusss golf with guests such as Wayne Player, younger
half of only the second father/son duo ever to qualify in
the same year for the final rounds of the British Open with
his very un-"politically-correct" ideas; or, representatives
of the world's best golf destinations sharing history or the
latest & greatest; or, the owner of the world's largest publisher
of golf books introducing new titles; or, even regular Joe's
voicing opinions on Tiger Woods and Augusta.
So, turn on The Golf Connection and tune in to the real world
of golf!
