Celtic Manor Golf Club
- The speed with which Celtic Manor has
impressed itself on the world golfing scene is little short
of miraculous. Less than seven years after it was founded
in 1995, it was selected as the host course for the 2010
Ryder Cup. Already one of the leading golf complexes in
Europe, Celtic's three unique courses are supported by a
£10 million clubhouse and floodlit golf academy plus a 400
bed Five Star hotel and health spa. All three courses were
designed by the Robert Trent Jones family. Robert senior
built courses in 600 locations around the world before celebrating
his Welsh heritage by getting to work on the land of his
father. He designed the Roman Road and Coldra Woods courses
before Robert junior carved the massive and challenging
Wentwood Hills from the steep slopes overlooking the Usk
valley.
Home of the £1.1 million Wales Open event on the European
Tour since 2000, the course provides a spectacular golfing
experience with a tough uphill finish that taxes the best
players. It will be adapted to create a purpose-built Ryder
Cup course with excellent spectator facilities in time for
2010. Wentwood Hills is certainly a spectacular championship
par 72 course that combines hilly landscape and links-like
features.
