Aberdovey Golf Club
- Set amongst the beautiful scenery of
Snowdonia National Park you will find the most superb championship
links course. The club is situated at the mouth of the Dovey
Estuary and nestles between the Cambrian Mountain range
and the coastal dunes of Aberdovey Beach. Aberdovey is a
classic links golf course and certainly one of the finest
seaside courses in the whole of Wales. The club was founded
in 1892 and one of its then members was none other than
Bernard Darwin, a top amateur golfer who played in the first
Walker Cup match. Darwin even remembers the course comprising
of nine flowerpots cut into the soil to act as holes! Former
Masters champion Ian Woosnam has also been known to practice
here during time off from his busy schedule. As with most
links courses the wind ensures that one 9 is tougher than
the other!
The clubhouse was totally rebuilt in 1997 and now boasts
some of the best golfing facilities to be found in Wales.
The club and staff have an enviable reputation for offering
a warm and friendly welcome. This is extended to visitors
and members alike, both on the course and in the clubhouse.
